Reduce your consumption of
oil
Avoid
Plastics
·
Use canvas, not plastic or paper bags at the store. Many
groceries credit your bill
5 cents for every canvas bag used. Keep them in
your car so you don't forget them.
·
Do NOT buy water in plastic bottles. Purchase a stainless steel
water bottle that
can be used over and over again.
·
Buy canned good items in metal or glass versus plastic.
·
Do Not take left over food from a restaurant if your only choice
is plastic or
Styrofoam.
·
Avoid using plastic wrap by using containers with lids to store
leftover food.
Limit
your idling
· Idling is not an
effective way to warm up your vehicle, even in cold weather. The
best
way to do this is to drive your vehicle. With today’s modern engines,
you
need no more than 30 seconds of idling on winter days before driving away.
·
Excessive idling
can cause damage to your engine components, including
cylinders, spark plugs,
and exhaust systems. Fuel is only partially combusted
when idling
because the engine does not operate at its peak temperature.
·
Frequent restarting
has little impact on engine components like the battery and
the starter motor. The bottom line is that more than ten seconds of idling uses
more fuel than
restarting the engine.
